IN THE GARDEN WITH BEAR!

07:41 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

The weather is getting a tad bit better and Bear has been playing in the garden a lot so we decided to get some new flowers to plant. Bear really enjoyed planting flowers last year and now he is older he can start to understand how things grow and the responsibility of looking after his flowers. Gardening is great for kids, they can learn new skills, have fun and play. Most children enjoy being outdoors and love digging in the soil, getting dirty, creating things and watching plants grow.

We took Bear to buy the flowers and compost and he picked which ones he wanted, he helped daddy put new compost in the pots and dig little holes for the flowers to go in. We talked to him about what plants needed to grow and then he finished of by watering the flowers. Just as it started to rain!!

If your looking for something to do that's easy and the kids will love, do this!

BEAR'S FAVOURITES: TOUCAN BOX

04:31 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

For the past year or so, I have been subscribing to a fortnightly craft box for Bear. It's motto, "Quality Time. Delivered." That's exactly what it is! I'm not the most crafty mum and Bear was getting bored of just drawing and painting and sticking random bits of magazines to paper. When I heard about Toucan box I thought it would be great for Bear and we all love it!

A little box that comes in the post for Bear, which he thinks is amazing as it has his name on it. In it is all the materials you need, to learn, create, explore and play. Every box has a different topic aimed at children ages 3 to 8 and is great value for money. The box comes with easy instructions to follow and sometimes you get bonus crafts to do. We get the petite box which is £3.95 and £0.98 postage per fortnight. We have made treasure maps, bird feeders, jelly fish and loads more. The materials are good quality and the only thing you'll need occasionally is a pair of scissors.

The latest box that we received has been Bear's favourite so far. Its was a kite, so easy to make and he made it with his Auntie Hannah. We took it outside to fly and it worked! I have saved two boxes for the Easter holidays, one is to make a dinosaur tail which I think Harvey is going to have a lot of fun making!

WORLD BOOK DAY: BEAR'S FAVOURITE BOOKS

02:30 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

World Book Day, is probably one of my favourite days in the year!  Ever since I was little I have loved books and having a whole day to celebrate them is amazing! Even before Bear was born I was buying him books and I couldn't wait for him to arrive so I could read to him. Making time to read a book with Bear is something we do everyday and I love just sitting in bed with a big pile of books reading with him.

I thought I would share some of  Bear's favourite books. These are the books Bear chooses over and over again. He loves lift the flap and pop up books so Dear Zoo, The Tickle Book & Farm 123 are always in the pile we have to read before he goes to bed. Now Bear is getting older he can sit and listen to longer stories properly and when we sit and read I can tell he is taking it in. The rainbow fish is one of them, it's a great book that encourages sharing and is one of my favs. The last book is the stories for little boys which Bear got from his Uncle. Its a really nice collection of classic stories like Pinocchio and The Gingerbread Man and the illustrations are lovely. These are just some of Bear's favourites, we would be here all day if I showed you them all!

Happy World Book Day Everyone!!

TODDLER LOOK BOOK: NEXT

13:27 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

This month Bear has 3 parties to attend, so I looked on Next to get him a new top and skinny jeans as he has grown out of his other things. I found a short sleeved baseball style top and grey skinny fit jeans which look so cute on him. Next sizes are very generous and I've had to turn the jeans up as they came up long but they fit great and have an adjustable waist so they don't fall down! Ive linked the top and jeans below. Here's Bear posing in his outfit. Enjoy!

OUR HALF TERM

10:29 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

The first half term of the year has gone quiet quick for us and Bear can't wait to get back to nursery and see his friends! I tried to have something planned for him to do everyday and keep him occupied. On Monday we met Bear's friend at soft play for a couple of hours. Tuesday we did painting and then went on a Mummy and Bear lunch date at Daddy's work for a pizza, hot chocolate and doughnuts. Wednesday was a chill out day as the weather was awful, but Bear still wanted to go outside and splash in some puddles! On Thursday our usual tots group was open so we spent the morning there, then Bear went out with his two Aunties. Friday was spent making treasure maps and looking for chocolate coins and a walk up to Sainsbury's to get a few bits.

TODDLER LOOK BOOK: ZARA

14:22 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

I  recently did a Zara order for some clothes for Bear so I thought I would show what I got. I love the range Zara do for boys and the quality is great and not that expensive. Bear is now in size 3-4 years so he is at the end of the baby boy sizes but he has loads of growing room so he should get a lot of wear out of them. I'm loving Harvey in monochrome at the moment so I couldn't resit the star top. I have linked the top and leggings, the hoodie was in the sale so does not have a link. Enjoy!

Bear's Favourite's: Play-Doh Ice Cream Sweet Shoppe

10:01 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

Ever since Bear really small he has always loved play-doh. I think I bought his first pot just after his first birthday and its always been an activity he has always loved to do. Currently he has been playing with the Play Doh Ice Cream Sweet Shoppe set which he could play with for hours!

He likes making mini ice creams for everyone and rolling out the doh to make the cones. We decided to buy him this little set as he has been watching videos on the YouTube kids app about it and I wanted to see what Play-Doh plus was all about. It Turns out that it is a softer and smoother doh for anyone who didn't know! Play-doh is a great activity for creative and imaginative play and perfect for building the muscles in their little hands, getting them ready for holding pencils and scissors later on.

BIG MAC IN A BOWL: RECIPE

10:57 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

Like most people I love a Big Mac from McDonald's, but they are not the best thing for you! I came across a picture of  Big Mac in a bowl on Instagram and had to try and make it for myself. It was simple, easy to make and tasted lovely!

Ingredients:
  1. 200g lean 5% beef mince
  2. Iceberg lettuce
  3. Chopped white & red onion
  4. Sliced tomatoes
  5. Thousand Island dressing
  6. Dairylea cheese slices
  7. salt & pepper
Method:

  1. Add white onions and mince to frying pan
  2. Fry until brown and cooked through
  3. Layer bowl with lettuce, tomato and red onion
  4. Cut cheese slices into little squares
  5. Add half the cheese into mince and cook until melted
  6. Season with salt and pepper
  7. Add mince on top of lettuce and place the rest of cheese slices on top
  8. Top with thousand island dressing
  9. Enjoy with some home made chips

BEAR'S FIRST SNOWMAN!

05:31 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

The last time it snowed properly where we live was when Bear was 6 weeks old. So he has been waiting a long time to build a snowman or even just play in the snow. He was very excited when he woke up on Sunday morning to find snow in our garden.

After breakfast Daddy & Bear went out into the garden and played in the snow, throwing snowballs and rolling up balls to build the snowman. Here are a few pics. Enjoy!

Bear's Favourites: Melissa & Doug Sticker Pad

15:13 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

So I thought I would share a post about Bear's favourite things. If you have a toddler you know that there favourite things change all the time. After Christmas Bear had a massive pile of new toys that he has been playing with. One of his fav's at the moment is this Melissa & Doug Reusable Sticker Pad that we bought him.
We both love this sticker pad and play with it everyday. It has 5 colourful backgrounds and 165 cling-style re positional stickers. We got bear the vehicles pad which has boats, diggers, planes, cars and trains. Its super fun and easy to use and the stickers stick really well, and are really good quality and is great for creative play.

We bought bear this as he loves stickers, but the normal ones are sometimes expensive when you only use them once and half of them end up on the floor or are not sticky enough. The pad was really cheap from Amazon.co.uk and I think I paid £3-4 if I remember correctly.

MEAL PLAN FOR THE WEEK 11TH - 17TH JANUARY

MEAL PLAN

MONDAY:

Rump steak, home made chips & peas

TUESDAY:

Spaghetti Bolognese

WEDNESDAY:

Chicken Goujons, Sweet potato chips & broccoli

THURSDAY:

Slow cooker Chicken Casserole & brussels

FRIDAY:

Cooked Breakfast

SATURDAY:

         Pizza (boys favourite)

SUNDAY:

Gammon, Egg & home made chips & peas

I have only shown dinner time meals as I don't plan breakfast and lunches. I just have what I feel like on the day, which is usually sandwiches, pita and hummus or Eggs (something quick and easy). Bear has a packed lunched at nursery three days a week, so I try to keep away from sandwiches (his favourite) when he has lunch at home. He loves eggs so its sometimes a omelette, dippy egg and soldiers or a snacky plate as I call it with crackers and cheese, fruit and anything else he fancies.

What's in my Toddlers change bag?

08:31 Kayleigh Huitt 0 Comments

When you first have a baby you have to have everything but the kitchen sink in your change bag its full of nappies, bottles, wipes , creams and god knows what else! Now Bear is Three and potty trained his bag is a lot smaller and easier to carry around and he sometimes carries it around himself if he's in a good mood!

So the first thing is the bag. I recently bought this in the Next Christmas sale, I had been eyeing it up on the website but didn't fancy paying £14 for it. On boxing day I had a look in the next sale and was just about to leave when it caught my eye hanging in the socks and hats section. I had to grab it. It was in the sale for £7 and I fell in love with it. The bag itself is very roomy and light. I love that is has some monochrome colours in it and it looks like a bear, which is what we call Harvey.

The contents of the bag are probably the same as what every mum puts in there child's bag when they are out and about. The most important thing is a full change of clothes, Bear has been potty trained since he turned two and a half  but the occasional accident does sometimes happen so I always carry a change of clothes especially is we are out for the day. Next is a snack and a drink , Bear would probably say this is the most important thing in his bag. There is nothing worse than being out with a toddler and they are clinging to your leg crying, saying "I'm hungry"!

I always carry around a pack of wipes for those sticky situations and plasters for the bumps and grazes. There is either a book or toy in Bear's bag to keep him occupied if we are out for dinner or in the car. My diary usually goes in Bears bag along with a pen, chap stick, 4head for headaches, hand sanitizer and my purse and keys as I don't really do handbags.

What do you have in your child's bag?

2016 Goals!

15:01 Kayleigh Huitt 1 Comments

It's new years and everyone makes some kind of list of resolutions or goals. Here are mine. I really want to try and accomplish every one of these goals and I'm hoping by blogging about it that it will motivate me to do it!

 1. Lose weight!
2. Blog at least once a week
3. Be more organised
4. Save £1 every day for a year
5. Try one new recipe every month

So number 1 is probably on the top of most peoples list. New year always calls for healthier food after indulging at Christmas and after our Christmas chocolate stash has depleted we will be buying no more than the little fun size ones for an occasional treat!

Blogging at least once a week is also an obvious one that I have wanted to do for ages so here goes! Number 3 is just in general be more organised in life, having meal plans done and things sorted for Bear's nursery and Matt's work and using my handy Cath Kidston diary to help me do this!

Saving money is a biggie for us this year! We have a break to Center Parcs to pay for and trying to save for a new house. I have decided to save £1 for every day of the year so near to Christmas this will help us towards Bear's birthday and Christmas as well. You wont really notice if £1 a day is going out your account or just taking the change out of your purse.

Okay so when I was a kid I as a really fussy eater and I wouldn't eat anything but baked beans and dinosaur meat sandwiches (weird I know). But as I grew up I started trying more things and now I eat a wider selection of things but still I would like to try more. I figured one new recipe a month wouldn't hurt so I can research and get the ingredients I need and add them to my meal plan. Keep a look out on here for my meal plans and new recipes.

Thanks for reading, have you got any goals or resolutions for 2016?
